Laurel Heights Hospital is an intensive psychiatric residential treatment facility for children and adolescents. We are seeking MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATE (2nd Shift: 2:45 pm-11:15 pm & Every Other Weekend)​ with experience in working in a hospital/psychiatric setting, prefer experience with children and adolescents Autism or other neurodevelopmental disabilities, including those who are moderately to severely affected by Autism. Candidate should have a basic knowledge of child growth and development, mental health and developmental disorders. Qualifications include but are not limited to: ability to engage patients in learning new skills, ability to work with challenging patients in a calm, respectful manner, ability to assist patients in completing self-care tasks and teach self-care within the patient's functional capabilities, ability to work within a team framework to ensure excellent patient care, ability to model appropriate social skills; ability to set firm yet caring/nurturing limits, ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently. Key expectations include maintaining patient confidentiality, respectfulness and courteousness toward patients, families, visitors and co-workers and maintaining professional boundaries. Candidates also need to be open to training and supervision toward competence in application of basic principles and techniques of applied behavior analysis, implementation of detailed behavior plans, management of patients with autism and psychiatric illnesses, and preventing and managing aggressive behavior.
