Nemours is seeking a Sleep Technologist (Scorer), FULL-TIME, to join our Nemours Children's Hospital team in Orlando, FloridaLocated in Orlando, Fla., Nemours Children’s Hospital is the newest addition to the Nemours integrated healthcare system. Our 100-bed pediatric hospital also features the area’s only 24-hour Emergency Department designed just for kids as well as outpatient pediatric clinics including several specialties previously unavailable in the region. In keeping with our goal of bringing Nemours care into the communities we serve, we also provide specialty outpatient care in several clinics located throughout the region. This position is responsible for: Assessing, performing, and evaluating all therapeutic, diagnostic, and monitoring services in the Sleep Lab. In accordance with a physician’s order, the sleep technologist performs procedures with a degree of independent clinical judgment under the general supervision of the Medical Director of the Sleep Lab and Director of Respiratory Care. The sleep technologist is knowledgeable in the safe operation, calibration, maintenance, and quality control of the equipment used in the Sleep Lab.â‹Job Duties- Complete all duties in accordance with a written or verbal medical order and the established policies and procedures.
- Schedule studies to accommodate patients based upon scheduled studies, availability of equipment and staff.
- Perform the following diagnostic and therapeutic procedures:
- Sleep studies (infants, pediatrics, adolescents) to include, but not limited to:
Multi channel polysomnogram w/o BIPAP/CPAP Multi channel polysomnogram with BIPAP/CPAP Multiple Sleep LatencyTest (MLST)(After additional training) Scoring of studies (after additional training) - Evaluate the reliability and reproducibility of test results, patient performance, and clinical implications.
- Perform and document the scheduled quality control procedures as related to the proper calibration of equipment, reference controls, problem identification, corrective action, and follow up of all equipment in the Sleep.
- Participate in the evaluation of sleep study equipment, supplies, and procedures.
- Document results of studies and therapy in the medical record.
- Participate in parent and patient education.
- Responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement; working with departments/services to improve the care provided.
- Maintain the equipment in appropriate working order. If equipment malfunction occurs, seek to correct this with appropriate resources as soon as possible. Keep the Medical Director of Sleep Medicine and the Director of Respiratory Care informed as to the malfunction and repair of the equipment.
- Provide age- and developmental-appropriate care to infants, children, adolescents, and adults.
Job Requirements - Associates Degree required
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with a minimum of six months of pediatric experience. The RT can be eligible with no sleep experience however, sleep experience preferred OR Successful completion of a polysomnography program associated with a state licensed and/or nationally accredited educational facility or equivalent experience and documented proficiency of all competencies required of a Polysomnographic Technician. If candidate was trained on the job and did not complete a formal program they must have acquired a sleep credential such as RPSGT. Ability to score sleep studies is preferred.
- Minimum of 6 months experience required.
- Ability to score sleep studies preferred.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications - If you are a RT a successful completion of the RRT. exam, as administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care or equivalent, is required with registry in sleep from the BRPT, NBRC or ABSM is preferred
- Acquiring a sleep credential such as the RPSGT must be obtained within 3 years of employment in the lab
- If you are Polysomnographic Technician credentialing by the BRPT or ABSM is required
- Active Florida RT License is required if applicable
- Active Basic Life Support certification is required
